Fast casual restaurant chain Sweetgreen is set to open its first fully-automated restaurant, the Infinite Kitchen, in Naperville, Illinois. The format, powered by technology acquired through Sweetgreen's purchase of company Spyce in 2021, aims to deliver a more consistent customer experience with faster service and higher profit margins.

The company has been working to adapt Spyce's technology to its own menu and makeline over the past two years. Sweetgreen CEO Jonathan Neman believes the new format could be transformative, potentially rolling out as soon as 2024. A second Infinite Kitchen will open later this year at a converted existing restaurant.
